    artist statement
I am currently working with recordings of non-musical sounds from many different environments - construction zones, places of religion, natural environments, etc. I've been collecting them into sounds collages based on either on themes (for example, women working) or on sound similarities. I've also been taking individual sounds - for example, a glass breaking - and processing the sounds and using the one sound to create an entire piece.

Over the past two years, I've been living all over the world - rural Sri Lanka and China, Paris, and the United States and working with recordings as building blocks gives me two advantages and/or constraints: It keeps me listening and always aware of the widely different sound environments that I'm in and limits me to working solely on my computer without the need for musicians - whom may or may not be available in the location I'm at and whom I may or may not have a way of communicating with. Working with these recordings gives me the chance to work outside the music studio.

Previous to the past two years, I worked with both acoustic and electronic instruments together, although I would usually create the acoustic side of any collaboration. Traveling has forced me to learn to work with both elements.
